Description automatically generated with low confidenceSt John works in approximately 40 countries through independent Priories and Establishments which operate under the Order of St John. In Wales the Prior for Wales is the senior representative of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, which is a working order of chivalry with His Majesty the King as Sovereign Head and HRH Duke of Gloucester as the Grand Prior.

The Order is a Christian Order, founded on Christian principles, which cares for the sick and the poor of any faith or no faith. The motto of the Order is "Pro Fide and Pro Utilitate Hominum" (For the Faith and in the Service of Humanity). This underpins the work of St John worldwide, including here in Wales.

Over the last six years, Paul Griffiths has been chairing the Gwent Council for St John Ambulance Cymru, whilst also serving as a National Officer for the Police Superintendents’ Association, having previously served as an active senior police officer
Paul has a long history of commitment to voluntary and charitable causes including serving as a trustee for Police Care UK and the Police Arboretum Memorial Trust, and volunteering as a Telephone Friend with the Royal Voluntary Service. Paul was awarded an OBE for ‘services to policing’ in 2021.

Paul says,

“I want to do my bit to help the organisation go from strength to strength”.

“I’m looking forward to working with fantastic people who all work to the same aim; to help those in need”.

Ar 24 Mehefin 2023 bydd St John Ambulance Cymru yn nodi Dydd Sant Ioan trwy groesawu eu Cadeirydd a Prior Cymru newydd pan fydd Paul Griffiths yn cymryd yr awenau oddi wrth Syr Paul Williams, OBE, KStJ, DL.

Mae Sant Ioan yn gweithio mewn tua 40 o wledydd trwy Priordai a Sefydliadau annibynnol sy'n gweithredu o dan Urdd Sant Ioan. Yng Nghymru, y Prior i Gymru yw uwch gynrychiolydd Urdd Hybarch Ysbyty Sant Ioan o Jerwsalem, sef trefn sifalri weithredol gyda’i Fawrhydi’r Brenin yn Ben Sofran a’i Uchelder Brenhinol Dug Caerloyw yn Brif Brior.

Urdd Gristnogol yw'r Urdd, wedi'i seilio ar egwyddorion Cristnogol, sy'n gofalu am y claf a'r tlawd o unrhyw ffydd neu ddim ffydd. Arwyddair yr Urdd yw "Pro Fide and Pro Utilitate Hominum" (Ar Gyfer y Ffydd ac yng Ngwasanaeth Dynoliaeth). Mae hyn yn sail i waith Sant Ioan ledled y byd, gan gynnwys yma yng Nghymru.

Dros y chwe blynedd diwethaf, mae Paul Griffiths wedi bod yn cadeirio Cyngor Gwent ar gyfer St John Ambulance Cymru, tra hefyd yn gwasanaethu fel Swyddog Cenedlaethol ar gyfer Cymdeithas Uwcharolygwyr yr Heddlu, ar ôl gwasanaethu fel uwch swyddog heddlu gweithredol.

Mae gan Paul hanes hir o ymrwymiad i achosion gwirfoddol ac elusennol gan gynnwys gwasanaethu fel ymddiriedolwr i Police Care UK ac Ymddiriedolaeth Coffa Arboretum yr Heddlu, a gwirfoddoli fel Cyfaill Ffôn gyda’r Gwasanaeth Gwirfoddol Brenhinol. Derbyniodd Paul OBE am ‘wasanaethau i blismona’ yn 2021.

Dywed Paul,

“Rwyf am wneud fy rhan i helpu’r sefydliad i fynd o nerth i nerth”.

“Rwy’n edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda phobl wych sydd i gyd yn gweithio i’r un nod; i helpu’r rhai mewn angen”.
