Thrill seekers raise £4340 to support lifesaving work in communities across Wales

St John Ambulance Cymru’s Zip into Spring fundraising event took place last weekend, and saw a collection of St John Ambulance Cymru members, volunteers and supporters come together to raise funds for a brilliant cause.

On Saturday 25th March, 30 thrill-seeking fundraisers took on the fastest seated zip line adventure in the world at Phoenix Zip World Tower in Aberdare. The zip line travels up to 70mph, taking participants down the Rhigos mountain and across the Llyn Fawr reservoir. Participants were full of adrenaline and excitement as they zip wired down the mountain, taking in the beautiful views of the Cynon Valley, all to support St John Ambulance Cymru’s vital charitable work in the communities of Wales.

Alan Drury, Community and Events Fundraising Manager, was thrilled with how the participants got on “they well and truly helped us Zip into Spring” he said, “we would like to thank everyone who took part as we had a really good mix of staff, volunteers from our Roath and Dyfed Divisions and new supporters too, who all came together to brave the World’s fastest seated zip line.”

Mr Drury added,

“As well as having a truly exhilarating experience, the money raised by our incredible supporters will help us to continue our vital lifesaving work in communities across Wales, and every donation really could be the difference between a life lost, and a life saved.”

Father David Morris, a Trustee for St John Ambulance Cymru, travelled down from North Wales for the event, it seems I’m becoming something of an adrenaline seeker as I get older, so I jumped at the chance to ‘Zip into Spring’ for St John Ambulance Cymru!” he said.

“It was a fantastic experience and all the more worthwhile to raise funds for the incredible life-giving and lifesaving work of our charity.”

Participants raised a huge £4340 to fund more of St John Ambulance Cymru’s fantastic work in communities across Wales. These donations will help the charity deliver free first aid training sessions to schools and community groups, as well as providing first aid cover at key events, keeping the public safe. Donations also go towards St John Ambulance Cymru’s youth programmes, providing Wales with a new generation of young lifesavers.
