When it comes to selecting a first aid at work refresher course, St John Ambulance Cymru is the leading training provider in Wales. In the UK, St John Ambulance is one of the voluntary aid societies (VAS) who are recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as standard setters for first aid training in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. We don't require external accreditation through an Awarding Organisation.

There is an important reason the HSE strongly recommends that those with a first aid at work (FAW) or emergency first aid at work (FAWE) qualification attend an annual skill refresher. Research shows that 'skill fade' is a significant issue for workplace first aiders. When you do not have the opportunity to practice the valuable first aid procedures learned in your initial course on a regular basis, you might find that your ability to remember it correctly or perform it to the best of your ability. A refresher course allows you to practice administering first aid at any time during your three year period as a qualified first aider. It is the ideal opportunity to refresh and practice emergency first aid skills and basic life support should you need to use them in the workplace.

A first aid at work refresher course will give you the confidence to perform lifesaving skills in an emergency, but it will not extend the validity period of your current qualification. If your 3 year certificate is about to expire in the coming months, then you should instead book a place on our First Aid at Work Requalification course (also offered as a blended option). By taking first aid at work requalification training, you can extend the validity of your certificate by a further three years.

We regularly hold the first aid at work refresher training course across Wales. You can search for courses below, or send an inquiry via email or phone at the top of the page. We can also deliver the training course at your premises if six or more of your employees require training.
