Our working life can have an impact on the quality of our mental health too. Fostering a greater understanding of mental illness and promoting good mental health benefits everyone.

That's why we at St John Ambulance Cymru are offering this half-day mental health awareness course. The more people who have a foundation in mental ill health awareness, the more we can offer support to those that need them. It's not just physical health that needs our attention.

Learn about the common mental health conditions, risk factors to be aware of, signs and symptoms of mental health difficulties, and how to help. It also advises delegates on how to stay mentally healthy at work.

We also offer this as an online course which is delivered via Zoom.

Who is it for?

This mental health awareness training is suitable for those who want to gain an overview of workplace mental wellbeing, how to spot the signs and how to help. If a person is able to discuss their mental health then this could help resolve issues before they escalate. That's why understanding mental health is so important. Delegates should be aged over 18.

How is it assessed?

Our highly-trained instructors will monitor the progress of learners during the training course. This will be done with occasional knowledge checks, and there is no course assessment at the end.

Certification

Upon successfully completing this course, participants will be awarded a certificate by MHFA Wales, a recognised accreditation. This certification remains valid for a period of three years, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing mental health education and support.

When it comes to selecting a mental health awareness course, St John Ambulance Cymru is the leading training provider in Wales. In the UK, St John Ambulance is one of the voluntary aid societies (VAS) who are recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as standard setters for first aid training in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. We don't require external accreditation through an Awarding Organisation.

Managers should strongly consider enrolling in a Mental Health First Aid course to effectively support their staff navigating mental health challenges. We offer an adult mental health first aid course which will enable the learner to become a qualified mental health first aider for the workplace. They will be the primary person when it comes to helping those suffering from mental illness and ensuring that they get the professional help that they need. The distinction between the two courses lies in their specific focus and intended outcomes. A Mental Health Awareness course is designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of mental health issues, aiming to reduce stigma and promote general awareness.

The course facilitates open communication about mental health for learners within teams and organisations by providing a platform for discussions that encompass a broad spectrum of mental health concerns. It sensitively addresses topics related to problems, including mental health disorder, personality disorder, anxiety, stress, and more.
