What are the requirements for onsite training?
Please use a public venue, such as a school, community hall, or workplace. We cannot deliver training at a residential address.
The trainer will need access to the venue at least 30 minutes before the course and for 15 minutes afterwards.
Please provide a private, quiet room that is large enough for the course, with a chair and writing surface for each delegate. Furniture should be movable so activities can take place safely.
The venue should have toilets, good ventilation, a comfortable temperature, and fresh drinking water. It must also comply with the Equality Act 2010.
All trainers have an Enhanced DBS check and carry St John Ambulance Cymru identification. If additional identification, security clearance or an induction lasting more than 15 minutes is required, please let us know in advance and include this on the booking request form.
What equipment do you need for onsite training?
Please provide a TV, monitor or projector that can connect to the trainer’s laptop, for example via HDMI. TVs and monitors should have working sound.
The trainer will need access to a power socket and reliable Wi-Fi with sufficient bandwidth for the course.
A whiteboard or flipchart is helpful where available.
What are the parking requirements?
Please provide parking for the trainer for the full course, as well as a safe place to unload equipment. If parking is unavailable, a loading bay or another suitable unloading area is acceptable.
Please arrange for a member of staff to help where unloading involves stairs or a lift.
If these arrangements cannot be provided, please contact us, as we may be unable to attend the venue.
What are the delegate requirements?
Please ask delegates to arrive at least 15 minutes early and wear comfortable, practical clothing suitable for activities such as kneeling and acting as a casualty.
For physical first aid training, please consider each delegate’s ability to participate in practical activities before booking.
Delegates need a basic command of English at Level 2. If a disability, learning need or other barrier could affect participation, please tell us in advance so we can consider reasonable adjustments.
If you have requested your course to be delivered in Welsh, please ensure all delegates on the course can speak Welsh.
Delegates must attend the full course to meet the required contact hours and receive certification. Trainers may refuse entry to anyone who arrives late.
Any mandatory pre-course work outlined in the booking confirmation must be completed on time. Delegates must show proof of completion, either as a printed certificate or on a smart device. Without proof, entry will be refused and no refund will be issued.
Course specific requirements:
Physical first aid courses
For courses with practical activities, including CPR, First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid, please also follow the guidance below.
Please provide enough clear floor space for at least half of the delegates to complete practical activities at the same time. Allow at least the area of one double bed for every two delegates.
We recommend approximately 50 m² (540 ft²) of training space, ideally at least 6.5 m × 8 m (21 ft × 26 ft).
The floor should be carpeted, or school gym-style mats should be available.
Fire Marshal courses
For fire marshal courses, please provide a clear, safe, and well ventilated outdoor area on the premises for fire-extinguisher practice. It should be at least the size of two parking spaces
If this is not possible, let us know when booking so a video demonstration can be arranged instead.
Mental Health courses
For mental health courses, please also consider the guidance below.
Breakout rooms are helpful for group discussions.
Mental Health First Aid courses cover sensitive subjects, including suicide and self-harm, and some conversations may feel emotionally challenging.
We provide a safe and supportive learning environment, but delegates should consider whether the course is right for them before attending.
