Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course

About our Emergency Paediatric First Aid course

This 1-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is suitable for those that look after babies, infants and young children. This practical training course covers the most common childhood illnesses and injuries that may occur while caring for young children.

It can be very frightening when you need to help a child in a first aid emergency. That is why it is important to have the necessary skills to respond when the worst happens and a paediatric first aid situation arises.

This Paediatric Emergency First Aid course is for anyone who works with or cares for infants. This includes parents and guardians, grandparents, and those who work professionally with children. You should take this course if you accompany children on outings. It is advised that at least one person in a childcare setting holds the full 2-day Paediatric First Aid training. If you are the sole childminder, then you will need to take the 2-day Paediatric First Aid course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will receive a St John Ambulance Cymru Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification. This certification will be valid for 3 years. After this, they should take the course again to remain certified.

St John Ambulance Cymru is a trusted and leading first aid training provider in Wales. In the UK, St John Ambulance is one of the voluntary aid societies (VAS) recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as a standard setter for first aid training under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. As such, we do not require external accreditation through an awarding organisation. Our qualified trainers draw on real life experience, and we ensure our courses are hands-on, practical, and engaging.

As well as the Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course which lasts for one day, we also offer a two day 12-hour training course. The two day paediatric course must be completed by at least one member of staff in a nursery or professional childminding environment. This is a requirement by law. You will also need to take the 2 day course if you are the sole person responsible for children such as a childminder. This 1-day course is great extra training for others to provide emergency first aid to early years children. It is a good idea for as many staff as possible to have the skills and confidence to deliver first aid. Managers should consider how many employees there are when choosing how many people take this training. You will also need to keep in mind how many children there are per each employee.

Ofsted regulates childcare providers in England, while childcare provision in Wales is regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and inspected by Estyn. St John Ambulance Cymru’s Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course meets the relevant first aid training requirements for childcare settings in Wales.

We teach our first aid courses at our training centres across Wales. Use the course finder below to find a course near you. If six or more employees need training, then we can come to your workplace and deliver the course.

You can get in touch with the training team by calling 0300 201 1999. You can also email [email protected].
